BoP Connect is prototyping a ""Small Intensive Plot (SIP)"" farming model to cultivate fruits and vegetables on a quarter to half acre plot of land. The fresh produce will be packaged and supplied to the urban consumers by balancing quality, freshness, and price.

Once the prototype is successful, SIP farming will be scaled through a hybrid model. The first will be the social model, which would involve outreach to smallholder farmers with the package solution and market for their production. The second model will be commercial, which will convert under/un-utilized land space in the city in to small vegetable producing plots for urban consumption only.

This hybrid mode will ensure triple bottom line impact of addressing hunger, nutrition, environmental sustainability through waste-free lean value chain, and increased productivity and income for smallholder farmers.
